Pedestrian deaths going up in Georgia

Recently, Georgia has seen a very troubling trend. An increasing number of pedestrians are losing their lives out on the state’s roads.

Between 2011 and 2017, the state’s annual pedestrian death total doubled. In 2017, the total was all the way up to 260.

Sadly, 2018 is presently on pace to see an even greater number of pedestrian deaths. There have already been over 100 pedestrian fatalities in the state this year. The 2018 pedestrian death total is currently 16 percent higher than where the 2017 total was at this time of year.

Why do you think pedestrian deaths have been on the rise in Georgia in recent times? What do you think it will take to end this trend?

As a note, the nation as a whole has also seen pedestrian fatality increases in recent years.

What parts of Georgia see the most fatal pedestrian accidents? Federal statistics point to Fulton and DeKalb counties holding the top spots.

These recent trends underscore how important it is for pedestrians in Georgia to be cautious on the roads. They also underline how critical it is for drivers to be mindful of pedestrian safety when behind the wheel. Drivers acting irresponsibly is among the things that create dangers for Georgia pedestrians.

Fatal pedestrian accidents can leave families shocked, full of grief and full of questions. This can include questions about how the accident happened, who was responsible and what might be done to seek justice and monetary relief. Wrongful death attorneys can help families with getting the answers to these questions.
